    Once the lowest-paid workers, people who work busing dishes in restaurants, or cleaning toilets in hotels or businesses shared in the gains in the economy. Even those at the very bottom got richer when the economy as a whole got richer.

    Today I found it odd that over 1/2 of my class didn’t know about or have heard of “Occupy Wall Street” — those protests happened visibly a decade ago, and yet ignored. Instead the “National memory” forces them to “remember” an event even further removed from them (9/11)

    It’s worth occasionally re-visiting this 4/20 Brett Stephens op-ed arguing that the US should return to normal life bc the Covid risk is limited to NYC bc we live packed together. The op-ed is completely prescient but only on Opposite Day. Good read.
