I don't think its that simple. Yes, their "lives" are their responsibility but that assumes they have "lives" worth living. Good societies make sure that every citizen has the economic opportunity to have a life worth living on a level playing field with a safety net.

And the US offers you that choice. Some people just CHOOSE not to take it. You're a desi guy, you should be aware what a country with no opportunity looks like vs a one where we have 3.9% unemployment(pre covid) and no federal income taxation for half the country.

I have lived in 3 countries under 3 systems. Yes, US is great and I am lucky to be living in
#SanFrancisco. A country this wealthy should not have homelessness, violent crime at all. That's due to economics. We have the skillset but we don't have the will or the conscience.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

Norway has all sorts of programs and safety nets that US doesn't. They still have homelessness Violent crime occur even amongst the wealthy, a higher proportion of violence occurs amongst the wealthy blacks, I have sources if you'd like to verify. Violence is not due to poverty

Yes, I'd like to see the data on that. Poverty is not the sole cause of violence. Economics is one of many. Other ones are mental illness, psychosis, etc. Lethality of violence can be significantly reduced if we address our gun culture. We have the highest, due to guns.

Data attached. Source: https://randomcriticalanalysis.com/2015/11/16/racial-differences-in-homicide-rates-are-poorly-explained-by-economics/ … Explain poverty vs. Economics. Guns doesn't explain the UK then. Blacks form 2.8% of the population but are responsible for HALF the violent crime even there.pic.twitter.com/SmzHTZw0Nz

"it’s clear that poverty predicts homicide quite independently of black" it seems like a cyclical argument. He's basically saying that blacks are poorer and tend to have higher single-mother ratio so blacks committ more violent crime. There's so much wrong with this logic :-(

Of course, he doesn't explain why there are so many single mothers in black communities, if that's true. Perhaps, because our
#CriminalJustice has racially targeted the men and boys?#CriminalJusticeReform (both parties support this now)1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes -

He does explain it. Its cultural, we have incentivized single motherhood amongst the black community due to Welfare policies Then the black mother/baby daddy chooses to not wear a condom because it doesnt feel good(This is where the part about CHOICE comes in). Wallah-->poverty

I don't buy that. It sounds like standard racial tropes like "welfare policies" "We (white people in power) have incentivized" it, by creating the conditions thru redlining and other racial policies. GOP blocked / made it difficult to get RU486 birth control

Logic behind not buying it? Single motherhood amongst the blacks is higher today than when Jim Crow laws existed prior to welfare policies Condoms are readily available everywhere. RU 486 is easily available since at least 2000, want to take a guess on single motherhood rate?
