I really like how "deducing this" is coming along. I wonder if it is compatible with the abbreviated template syntax, i.e. would `void foo(this auto& self)` work? ,

Turns out, the toxic users weren't the smartest or most active, they just made everyone else feel uncomfortable. Was very surprising how quickly things improved, and It didn't kill the server like many warned it would. Was a valuable lesson that I imagine applies offline too. 3/3

The more software I read, the most I'm convinced that most systems just "happen to work," rather than being "guaranteed to work." Our entire ecosystem is built on assumptions that aren't enumerated, communicated or defined. This will come back to haunt us. 🙂

Gravity is a hoax used by Big Aviation to keep us from flying like the volant animals we are! It's just a theory. Physicists are only in it for the money! We should listen to both sides of the argument.

However, the act of _specifying_ a program is considerably harder; it requires you to explicitly separate the essential from the accidental.

It is done. I finally gave my first talk at a big conference. I hope that my audience liked it and got something useful out of it.

CoC is not for bad actors. It's for those who are worried about attending, even actually afraid, that they might be mocked, attacked, harassed, made fun of etc. It says "we have your back" to those people. And yes, a welcoming address and an enforcement team are important too.

The frame I take is that tests are great aid to design, if we leverage them that way. We can use them as hints to separate concerns. And, yes, databases are usually a separate concern from the things that use them.
