I think this is right, fwiw. I talk a bit about the way social media encourages identity-based factionalism, but we just don't yet know how much that'll change national politics, which tends to collapse into two poles. I suspect it'll change what those poles are.https://twitter.com/JacksonKernion/status/1224002747609047040 …

Agreed. The Democratic Party at the moment seems to be doing its part in establishing multiple ideologies w/in a single party. But when intraparty diversity exists in one party and a doubling-down on homogeneity exists in the other, the diverse party seems to be at a disadvantage

U.S. Greens have been imagining this for 30+ years. We watch our sister Green Parties elected to state & national legislatures around the world in countries w/elections by proportional representation, while in the U.S. we are silenced & U.S. politics falls off a right wing cliff

@ezraklein what are your thoughts about the system changes necessary to allow a multi-party democracy to exist? Starting with electoral reforms such as moving away from pluralities / first past the post elections to ones where winners have some level of support from a majority?Hvala. It's very interesting to imagine multiparty democracy of the kind Lee Drutman describes in this age of fractal online identity organization. I think you mean "the kind of fractal online identity organization that has a large number of members of the same organization".
