To "elevate the dialogue" a bit, I'm struck in this Cooperman-Warren letter, as I am so often in these dust-ups, by how much what billionaires respond to isn't the details of tax policy, but the respect their labor is given. http://fm.cnbc.com/applications/cnbc.com/resources/editorialfiles/2019/10/31/CoopermanLetter.pdf …

I think it's
@KelseyTuoc who's said the policy equilibrium here marries much higher taxes on the rich with more compliments.Prikaži ovu nitHvala. Twitter će to iskoristiti za poboljšanje vaše vremenske crte. PoništiPoništi

We need a policy where every time you make a billion dollars we ring a big bell, put your name on a hospital, and take $900 million away from you. Maybe you get a sash or something also.
-
If the bell is really big I think folks would go for it.

But even those who say they recognize how large a part luck played in their success still have the money=personal worth syndrome. At least subconsciously, they still feel that they're god's anointed.

He’s got a lot of nerve though to talk about her policies being redistributive. The economy has been redistributive for the last forty years, which is why it is now blotted with so much accumulated wealth doing nothing but serving as a status marker for some entitled whiners.

This is so thoughtful! "The money has long ago stopped buying things. It's a marker, for them, of worth and accomplishment." it's like caring about the score in a game you're winning by miles! So... the law of
#DiminishingMarginalUtility applies even to cash. -
Yes they (aka vox) even did an entire weeds podcast about this when there was the wealth tax proposal so many moons ago.

Also true, in a different way, with very-high-paid athletes. Their lifestyle doesn’t change. It’s a measurement of respect, especially by comparison to peers.
-
Sort of. Their money is earned by very physical labor, though. And they only earn it for a few short years, and almost none of them come from any kind of money.
