I am so getting tired of Vlambeer's overreactions to game cloning. Why are they making a big deal over a game on a platform they aren't on?

@ezknight I'm getting equally tired of brushing cloning off as if it's a good thing. It is not and should not be 'OK'. Inspiration, fine.

@ezknight In the end, though, we do not control what the press writes about. We just reply honestly when there's a request for comment.

@tha_rami I don't "brush it off as a good thing" I brush it off as a reality of game development. You can't fight reality.

@tha_rami I also think that cloning is a sign of weakness in a game developer. That weakness should give you more than enough edge to win.

@ezknight The big deal for us is copying gameplay+style+theme, making fake screenshots and releasing before we release our 'inspiration'.

@tha_rami The releases are on different platforms, and apparently, yours is of higher quality. So what exactly do you have to fear?

@tha_rami While you don't control the media, you do control your responses. Hyperbole and exaggeration don't really help the issue.

@tha_rami Additionally, when you respond to the media with plans to complain to Apple and Google to get the game pulled, you seem petty.

@ezknight We'd rather fight 'reality' than accept it as 'just the way things are'. Clones make creativity and openness a liability.

@tha_rami How? One would think that more people in a race would make those running run faster and overall do better. Not games then?

@ezknight We do intend to challenge a game that takes our style, theme and gameplay & admits to faking their screenshots & trailer.

@ezknight It's more like running a marathon and having someone join the match 300 meters ahead of you in the last 500 meters.

@tha_rami But is that concern for potential customers or just pettiness on your part? A bad game will fail whether it was a clone or not.

@tha_rami And such a runner will quickly be called out by judges and the crowd. They will not receive the benefit you would.

@tha_rami Which also happens in games. The market is very capable of spotting fraud without the need for other "runners" complaining.

@ezknight It's a concern for originality. It's a concern that 'a good clone' is something people think exists.

@ezknight Which is exactly what is happening. We, the runners, just explain to the interested press that we think it's a good thing they do.
