"The government needs to stay out of my business" = I don't want my customers and employees to know I'm ripping them off
When people talk about getting rid of "government regulations", you can usually substitute the words with "accountability to the public" without changing the meaning.

Let’s get rid of patent protections as they are also government regulations. Any free marketer in favor of that?

To be more specific, they are government regulations that are enforced at taxpayer expense by the full weight of US customs and other law enforcement agencies.

Beginning at least with the 1980s "greed is good" era, large businesses have always acted completely in their own extremely narrow self-interest. Working for a business like this can do a lot to nudge your "human nature" in a certain direction
