The only thing that I really love in this world is watching dogs who can almost play fetch, but not quite. Like they bring it back sometimes, but mostly they just hold the ball in their mouth confused as to why the game isn't continuing.
The best part, however, is watching the human who, having seen a successful fetch happen a few times, in perpetually convinced that the dog is on the verge of understanding. Then the dog drops the ball 40 feet away again and they walk over, hands in the air, totally exasperated.
But you’ve missed dogs who mess up other dogs’ games of fetch. My greyhound loved to speed past the retrievers, then watch them give up because they won’t get to there first, before he’d lope off without touching the ball.
Stop attacking my dog. She does know how to get the squeak, she chooses not to.
