Not all kids grow up willing &/or able to take care of/support their parents in their old age. From what I’ve seen, it’s less than half.
What's bizzare is that people think that humans pursue their own rational self interest, and the fact that people are going around having babies doesn't seem to deter this idea at all.

Having children is purely optional. Neither rational nor irrational. Death comes for us all. If some choose to pass on gene, knowledge, and family tradition, then so be it.

Babies do have nonmonetary benefits that offset the costs for some people. Same as pets do for other people.
