I honestly think it's because they have no real conception of what "the left" is. They think "leftism" means not discriminating against gay people or having women on their board or whatever. The idea of a democratic economy has never seriously occurred to them.
The most amazing thing about Silicon Valley is that they all think they are on the left side of the political spectrum, while it is totally unquestioned that the venture capital firms should make every single decision on how human activity is organized.
