Remember, we produce more with less labor than we ever have before in history. If you are poorer than your parents while doing the same work, someone is ripping you off.

My favorite explanation for why people can't afford a house on one salary anymore is that women entered the workforce, driving wages down. People just accept it as a natural fact that more people working causes workers to be poorer, when obviously the opposite should be true.

The more people that are in the workforce, the more is produced, and the wealthier we should all be. Instead, wages are based on a brutal competition of who will take the least to live. The fact that society get wealthier doesn't matter if workers don't control the wealth.

          >more people that are in the workforce, the more is produced This assumption is false. The only amount that is produced is the amount that is demanded. Unless population increases the overall demand will not increase for generic good X.

I used to think the communist screech to seize the means of production was overwrought handwringing. These days, I do wonder if they didn't in fact have a valid point given how the working class is treated.

I ain't going to wear a Mao jacket except for style, and I ain't going to sing the Internationale except mockingly. I just think my meter's pegged a little towards some state interference in the economy's runnings.

Competition for who is willing to work for the least is only half the story, the other half is how much workers are willing to sacrifice to do their job. I.e long hours, long commutes, time away from family, health impacts, etc.

It's all irrelevant if constant growth can only be maintained by destroying the natural world.

You know...I wonder if the minimum wage was abolished if it would help end low wages. Then minimum wage would have to be naturally decided by the workers and employers based on what the worker can reasonably live on.
