my co-worker thought for most of his life that 'clove' referred to the entire head of garlic and was very confused by everything when he found out the truth

“The only time you should ever use one clove of garlic in a recipe is if it’s a recipe for a single roast clove of garlic. And even then, you should probably add more.”

And you'll smell delicious for days as you sweat garlic out of your pores! You'll be like a walking loaf of garlic bread. Who doesn't love garlic bread?

I think they're erring on the side of "don't overdo it" like telling you to remove the seeds from jalapenos. That is completely at odds with my aesthetic views on food (moderation=BORING), but maybe the most annoying thing is that they're taking the decision out of your hands

I saw someone tweet a few weeks back that a clove used to be a unit of weight (about seven pounds, IIRC) that would make for much more sensible recipes :)
