Capitalism has killed our ability to imagine a different world. We don't need a billionaire to be in charge of every aspect of our lives. We already have distributed systems where people can own their on content, such as email. Facebook could work exactly the same.

It would take such a tiny amount of public funding to build out a system that could rival Facebook that we wouldn't even notice it. You wouldn't have to trust a billionaire to not spy on you, or the government not to. You would control it yourself. That's the solution. Obviously.

I think it's the same people who uses their status as their personal diary that gets the most upset. The people from high school who added you after a few years, made some really strange remarks regarding "urban youth" in their neighborhood and have since been unfriended.

The weird thing is how Cambridge Analytica goes on record saying something illegal, and then suddenly the focus is entirely shifted to Facebook. Seems fishy, considering the former specializes in influencing public opinion

To be fair, my dumb response is at least non-profit, uses e-mail as a backup when people don't have accounts:https://twitter.com/jeevesbond/status/976506531570245632 …
