With emphasis on the media being independent of government and democratically run. A lot of people conflate publicly funded media with state-run media.
Free speech, according to right wingers, seems to mean the ability to normalize racism and sexism again in social discourse. Real free speech is everyone having access to the channels that allow your ideas to be heard. This means only one thing: public media.
