People think it's a big joke when tech bros like Elon Musk try to reinvent city buses. They know about buses. They want to take control of public transportation and put it in private hands. They want to exclude the poor and disabled for "efficiency" and take a cut of the savings.

Wait 'til his fanboys reach middle-age & realize they're expected to get their side hustle on indefinitely because there is no retirement fund at the end of the line

A libertarian I know thinks Musk is nuts because self-driving cars will make mass transit of any kind obsolete. My take is that SDCs wouldn't kill current mass transit, but it would kill Musk's hyperloop dead. Why would rich people use it when they can have SDC limos?
-
For that matter, mass transit will survive precisely because most people soon won't be able to afford cars, self-driving or not. Not with college and other debts to pay off.

He's just creating better technology. It could be used for public transport. IC engines are used make private cars and public buses, for instance.

Someone joked when he launched the rocket that he's a comic book supervillain but I don't think it's much of an exaggeration.

I'm from a Canadian province that just cut it's rural bus services in a hypothetical bid to lower costs but it's primarily used as a means of getting rural poor and native people's to medical appointments. The province is lawding it's cost saving measures over sick people.
-
Also doubt very much that the increased medical costs for missed appointments will actually result in any real savings. This is and always has been about transferring public money into private hands.

What socialist don't understand is that profit is necessary but not sufficient. And btw if an idea doesn't make a profit is because people don't care about it enough to pay for it.
