People think it's a big joke when tech bros like Elon Musk try to reinvent city buses. They know about buses. They want to take control of public transportation and put it in private hands. They want to exclude the poor and disabled for "efficiency" and take a cut of the savings.

Right now the city buses are run for the benefit of the people living in the city. For people like Elon Musk, that's a nightmare. He thinks buses should be run by a billionaire capitalist like him, and should be designed to benefit him, for profit.

You'll notice in these Utopian visions of the tech future, they never say stuff like "and this is how it will be even more accessible than what we have now", it's always like "it has its own WiFi so you can work while on the way to work, in your private booth".

1/ Public transit does not profit. It remains subsidized in the majority of jurisdictions in the world. The subsidy can be subject of scrutiny but that is NOT the point. Transit is based on the government providing the RIGHT for people to move freely.

2/ The right to move on roads that were built by the state in transit funded by the state. Access for all has never been profitable as it is not designed for profit.

I also agree with you on profiteering but if Musk has the foresight to revolutionize the bus system or any transport system, then surely he can benefit the poor, disabled or underprivileged. As history shows, the less fortunate usually get left for dead. (ie Elderly)

The trains in Tokyo are profitable. Clearly they don't work for anyone except a few capitalists.

Bc Service went to shit and fares became exhorbitant. Corbyn policy of renationalising transport is very popular.

Public transport systems have serious, serious issues. I don't know how you get the idea that they're good. A person wanting to improve on that is a good thing. A person profiting off it is bad, though, I agree with you on that. But our current system is not working for all.
