Language as well as knowledge is power as you indicate. Not learning things like grammar render you powerless. Whose side are you on?!
Remember, you don't have to learn grammar, every child learns their language with ease. Learning grammar is learning someone else's grammar – almost certainly that of the ruling class.

I think they're referring to the notion that "language is a dialect with an army behind it." The ruling class can determine the correct usage of language and portray dialects as "grammatically" wrong.

I'm quite sure this is a joke I don't get, but I have to say that grammar is an accessible area of scientific study, and in my opinion, an interesting one.
