Nobody is forcing you to work in a capitalist system. Of course then you also won’t have the modern accommodations you’re probably accustomed to, but nobody promised those to you simply by virtue of you existing. You want a piece of the progress pie, you have to work for it. Duh.
Freedom is being able to control what you do with your time. Capitalism is being able to control what your workers do with their time.

If there's bosses, it ain't socialism. There might be people in supervisory roles, but they must always be accountable to the workers.

As an employer of a small team of software developers the truth for me is somewhere in the middle. They decide how best to prioritise and solve the problems set before them (freedom) but they are given projects which they are expected to work on. Hours r also somewhat flexible

Even if I lived off the grid, I would not be totally free. I’d have to work to feed myself and my family, provide shelter and warmth. That’s what people did before capitalism. Like, all the time.
