if anything we should make it easier for kids to get guns, that way when there is a school shooting, odds will be that the next school shooter will already have his gun ready, and he can stop the first school shooter.

True, true, America seems to have mastered the art of splitting the nation into groups of "us" and "them" - if nobody trusts anybody else an inch then good luck trying to say "we all need to divest our guns... you go first" :-/

There's usually a brief period post-terrorist attacks when you could see a couple of heavily armed police ostentatiously displayed at stations etc, but even then they had sheepish smiles on their faces like they felt a bit overdressed.
