That makes total sense to me. If so many more people are going to be doing gig work the nature of those contracts has to improve.

This is wrong. Silicon Valley types work jobs with better work life balance, benefits and protection than any before them. And contact workers like those at Uber/Grubhub often actually like the job/pay/freedom. Actually talk to a gig worker some time.
