I like when people say "communism doesn't work because people are selfish". So the solution is apparently to use a system that gives almost unlimited power to the most selfish people alive??

No. All economic systems suffer from corruption, but capitalism has lifted far more people out of poverty than Communism. That's why it's worth using.

Marx believed that civilization needs to pass through capitalism. In any case, the violence built into the current capitalist order, and the deeply immoral inequality it has created, damns it. Communism doesn't work because it is theft and immoral.

"Communism is theft" So if a thief steals the stuff you worked for and you take it back, apparently that makes your theft worse and more immoral than the original theft.

Work would largely be optional, and automation has the potential to replace labor under communism. Also, we don't need commodity production to survive. It's not like we need hundreds of juiceros or other useless junk which capitalism wastes resources on overproducing.

Marx's quote above does not suggest work being optional, "from each according to his ability." Not wanting to work =/= not being ABLE to work. Capitalism only produces "junk" if people want to buy it. Who is anyone to decide that one man's junk is not another man's treasure?

Perfect systems don’t exist, for there to be rich many must be poor. I wanna live in a system where I can provide, by any means, as long it’s not comprising the freedom of others. Freedom and variability in work ethic naturally create divides between rich and poor

Capitalism has no conscience and corporates are institutions for licensed greed and selfishness.

"people are problematically selfish" ergo we must use an economic system where people pursue their own selfish self-interest, & it is rewarded, and *somehow* this will have wider social benefits, NOT one that aims at facilitating & rewarding our cooperative tendencies. Logic™
