The other half of the time they mean automating a process to remove the necessity of human labour then insisting their patent gives them the right to charge pre-automation prices.
When Silicon Valley talks about "disruption", half the time they just mean going after an industry with strong labor unions, and undercutting them with cheaper, more desperate workers.
