I believe there's actually a strong argument that the invention of the washing machine was very helpful to the women's rights movement. That work needed to be done somehow, & the washing machine made doing it much quicker.

Automation, if applied correctly with the correct societal framework built around it, could eliminate the need for a class of people designated for menial labour, and essentially create a golden age of creativity.

The sad fact is that what has “liberated” women is technology making household chores quicker. Women still spend much more time cooking and cleaning than men, but now it doesn’t consume all their time.

My earlier comment was only about progress in division of household chores. Obviously progress toward women’s equality is a long and on-going struggle that has little to do with kitchen appliances. What I meant is not as stupid as what I seem to have said.
