I followed a bunch of philosophy grad students at one point, and slowly unfollowed all the men because they were constantly trying to prove how smart they were in the most obnoxious possible way. I now see why women drop out of philosophy majors so much.
Female philosophy student on twitter: "I'm thankful for all my amazing friends for supporting me during stressful midterms. Also here is a picture of my dog!" Male philosophy student on twitter: "Here's why most philosophers misunderstood Wittgenstein BLAH BLAH I'm the smartest."

When I was in grad school, several of us were sitting around the TA room talking philosophy. After watching us for a while, a student said, "I’ve never seen such a display of one-upmanship!" None of us saw it that way — we were just jabbering philosophy.
