People think Capitalism is the best we can do, but I can't think of any other form of society that would intentionally destroy the planet because it was more profitable to do so.

The problem is Groupthink, not capitalism; i.e. players perceive that their small contribution to reduce emissions won't do anything unless everyone does the same thing at the same time, which won't happen.

Capitalism still works here: think of it like an overbooked flight. Agent announces the problem, players all assume someone else will volunteer before they do. It's not that they're unwilling to help, but that they perceive someone else will first.

I think much of the problem stems from the fact that people only see the Marxist (failed) roadmap as the alternative and keep confusing economy with political ideologies, merging concepts into a gruel of fallacies that are consumed massively and end up creating mindless acolytes.
