The right wing conception of masculinity is absolutely bizarre. They are like: "Be a man! Eat steaks. Wear pants. Passively submit to authority based on property relationships. Let the poor die. Destroy the environment if it makes you feel good for two seconds. That's manliness."
It seems to me as though real masculinity, in almost every culture, has always been about growing into an adult and realizing that adults put the community's needs above their individual ego. In other words, to no longer be a child who just wants to get their way.
Conventional ideations of adulthood and manhood seem to be contradictory, and manhood seems to win. It's fucked.
