Except the Reinheitsgebot was implemented in 1516, so we at least know that Germans have always taken beer pretty seriously.

People often ignore the fact that the Reinheitsgebot was abolished again in 1551. And that the main reasons for its installment was to save "good" cereal (i.e., wheat) for food and not waste it on beer, and avoid the use of psychoactive substance-infused beer for pagan rituals.

The avg diet in the 1500s was definitely more varied than the avg American diet today tho & more ppl had time to cook bc we worked a lot less

I'm skeptical of this idea... They didn't even have tomatoes in Europe. Meat was a luxury for most people.
