I cannot stress this enough. If you are laid off due to coronavirus, do not pay rent. Why should workers have to "dip into their savings" during a crisis just so landlords don't have to dip into theirs?

I think we as a society should always default to taking the side of the renter in these cases. Most of us don't have much in the way of savings if anything. But whatever's in their bank account, your landlord DOES have value saved. You live in it.

Man. The implied “this goes for everyone/holds true for all landlords” is such sloppy thinking. I rent a back house. My landlord had to rent out her own house and move out of state for work to pay mortgage and make ends meet.

In the class sense, there is no time for a "case by case" basis

Do you think landlords display "rent-seeking" behavior?

Very little renter’s protection in Australia. You’d be out on the street in a fortnight, if you don’t pay your rent.
