I agree with you, but have you ever bought a house and rented it at market value and also maintained it? Because it doesn't pay nearly as well as using tax cuts to buy back corporate stocks. Being a small-time, honest landlord is just real estate speculation plus janitorial work.

real estate speculation is bad though, because it incentivizes driving up the cost of living. real estate speculation is the reason homelessness is so pervasive in the west.

Only if we ignore that landlords must do maintenance constantly on both the inside and outside of the house, usually on multiple units. It's a job if you work to make money.

Having roommates is a full-time job. And getting them to pay their rent and pay their part of groceries and pick up after themselves is the impossible job.
