Of all terms in philosophy, "social construct" has the most confusion for the public. Social constructs aren't without value or meaning. Marriage is a social construct. Borders are a social construct. Money is a social construct. You are still allowed to care about these things.

I make that point exactly in order to argue that pointing out "social constructs" is, more often than not, pointless. It's a trivial claim. "tree" is a social construct. Should you then correct people when they make claims about trees?
