Dogs often ignore you when you tell them to shut the fuck up, but to cats the very concept of "shut the fuck up" is so alien, so incomprehensible, that they can't even begin to conceive of a position on whether or not to obey. And also they are ignoring you.

I tell my cat "No". it registers no reaction. I remove my cat from the kitchen counter. Without apparent thought, without any time for consideration, it focuses on an ant on the floor. It was never on the counter. It was always watching the ant. I am not even a wisp of wind.
