One thing they about Jeff Bezos giving $10 billion to "fight climate change" they don't discuss is that he alone will decide who gets funding. For example, if they want to study if it's good for the climate to ship every retail item individually to houses, they won't get funded.
If they want to study whether or not we need to move past capitalism to solve the climate crisis, because an economic model based on competition that requires endless growth for investors can never reduce consumption...well, they will double not get funded.
If, for example, we had taken that money as taxes and spent it on the same purpose, we could democratically decide how to allocate it, rather than having a billionaire with extremely vested interests decide what science is or isn't valuable.
Forget climate change this is about Bezos getting a tax write off and the ability to leverage his wealth to make more money through the donations. It’s disgusting.
One of our local multimillionaires put together a fund for Australian bushfire relief. The majority of the money is tasked to undermining climate science.
So become a billionaire and fund it.

To me the much bigger issue is that we know what needs to be done, but it takes the power of the state to make changes -- compulsory mpg standards/efficiency standards/adoption of solar/mass transit funding. If he funded an Amtrak upgrade, for instance...
we, poor people, can not invest the money that we haven't but we can invest our hate in whatever we want. I choose hate people like Bezos to the end.
