trolley problem: there are 6 people on one track and LITERALLY ZERO on the other centrists: move 3 to the empty one why are you so divisive

Centrism is more like "there are 3 people on one track and 0 on the other. If you flip the switch the train will go to the track with 0 people, it will hurt industry, you will lose your job in train switching forever, and the next train switcher will kill the 3 people anyway"

I wish it was like that. What it's really like is this: Centrist: "I am practical, unlike the radial left, I can actually get things done!" Leftist: "So what, exactly, are you going to get done?" Centrist: "Whatever the Republicans want me to do."

also, this is what happened pre-Hitler in Germany. the center, center-left and the left squabbled bitterly. note also: that the AfD is gaining ground in the eastern part of Germany.
-
Pre-Hitler, the far left accused the centre-left of being "social fascists", and refused to form a coalition with the centre-left in order to stop Hitler. That refusal to form a coalition, the refusal to compromise, gave Hitler the opportunity to take over.

Normally agree with you, but in the uk a hard left opposition has led to an ultra right party winning (with brexit as a consequence - trad mid left constituencies voting right for first time in +++ years). Insofar as philosophy demands acceptance of a complex reality, you sure?

I think Brexit is the key factor here. It was the one thing people didn’t want to be betrayed on.
