It’s really sad how so many people think the USSR was actually communist, when it was actually first a totalitarian state run by a despot, and then one run by an oligarchy (aka the Party). Communism and its trappings were like Christianity for GOP: handles for control, no more.

Of what does “the workers decide what to do themselves” consist? If it consists of individuals choosing actions that don’t go against the rights of others, it seems hard to call that authoritarian. But if it means imposing an organizational structure which enforces “interests”...
