Liberals like to argue that the meritocracy doesn't exist, because billionaires had rich parents or whatever. Who cares? It's not as though having billionaires with thousands of servants to meet their every need is more moral because they were born clever, rather than rich.

"I was born with the specific cleverness that allows me to manipulate financial data and win at stock market gambling, therefore I deserve a yacht which took thousands of man-hours to build, servants in my mansion, and the power to dictate workers of the companies I bought."

Of course. But the really nasty part of the meritocracy fallacy is that success is a result of "effort". That people are poor because they for some reason CHOSE to be lazy (while in the real world, the poor of course tend to be the most hardworking).

I grew up in a very wealthy town and people there 100% believe that what they have is entirely a result of them working harder than anyone else, it's unbelievable

I have always wanted to know why it is considered “moral” to use your cleverness to get others to give you their money or goods, but it is immoral to use superior physical strength to take it from them.

We should definitely bring back the idea of usury as a moral failing

It’s funny that word was actually invented as a derogatory term for a dystopian society where people are judged by their IQ. My priority atm though is calling bs on them calling themselves “liberals”: they are not liberating sh*t, just reinforcing oppression.

“Well intentioned but misinformed” is more accurate but too long. I shall call them WIMI.

I've argued similarly against intellectual snobbery back when academic Twitter was on their "call me doctor" kick. They were all like "getting a PhD was hard work; I earned the title" and I kept asking what title the hardworking janitor who cleans their offices earned.

Often people value morality of rewards based on traits that seem authentic to that person. Inherited wealth might not be as authentic. Whether that arg is true or not is where the interesting discussion is

That’s a good point. I think a lot of people who are anti-billionaire would be anti-thousands-of-servants for anyone.
