When Boris Yeltsin visited American and saw the variety of goods in the Supermarkets, he questioned socialism. When Muhammad Ali visited the Soviet Union and saw there were no homeless people, he questioned capitalism. I guess it is a matter of taste which is more important.

That’s why the nordic model of capitalism is the best we’ve got; allowing a free market without letting profit to eclipse ethical considerations. e.g., wide variety of goods AND free health care.

Let's be honest. There's no way Yeltsin wasn't very drunk when he said that, so who knows what he meant.

There were homeless people in USSR, though, despite Soviet constitution guaranteeing a right for housing. It was also literally a criminal act to be homeless. There's even a special term homeless people - "БОМЖ". They were arrested and put into prison, pretty much like in US now.

It’s amazing what you can do when you criminalize homelessness 🙄. Also, I believe the quote from Ali said he saw no beggars or hitchhikers. Again, criminalizing these things with strong enforcement is one way to “deal” w them.

Of course Boris Yeltsin was a psychopath and Muhammad Ali was based, so that also had to be factored in
