Capitalism is the machine that turns everything into paper clips. Great for paper clip accumulators, bad for everyone else.

Capitalism works because humans have that inherent desire for reward. Brilliant Primatologist Frans De Waal has an interesting demonstration on chimps(available in Youtube) that summarizes why capitalism is likely and practically works on our species.

Compare the time span of humanity's existence, to the first emergence of urban societies, to the invention of European capitalism, to its spread to the rest of the world through imperialism. Capitalism is an ideology and economic model as natural as any other.

It would work even better if people were taught to be business owners instead of taught to be workers.

But then who would be dumb enough to work for someone else? Why not just give people a fair wage. Or better like @profwolff suggests, create co-operatives and create a democracy at work in stead of a dictatorship of the board of directors and shareholder.

many people talk about capitalism lifting people out of poverty, but many of those “poor” people only became impoverished when capitalism tainted their land and made it impossible to subsist without participating in capitalism.
