I've now read a few dozen books on space stuff, and a lot of papers, and not a single one has provided a citation for the idea that space exists.

Gravitational waves are empirically observed disturbances travelling at the speed of light through SPACEtime. How is it possible that the waves are empirically observed & Spacetime is not?

You need to have a notion of space and time to analyze what data comes through LIGO. More than that, the foundations of reality as we percieve it lies on the notion of space and time. Science needs space and time to exist. You can't prove spacetime, you merely aknowledge it.

That is an interesting observation worth considering

Maybe you should go tell the string theorists that we necessarily don't exist within an 11 dimension Hilbert space.
