Social mobility is highest when inequality is lowest. Want to live the American dream? Move to Holland.
When liberals talk about how good a society is because of "social mobility", they are essentially saying that it's fine and good if dire poverty exists next to extreme wealth, as long as who is in what group is somewhat randomized.
