Capitalism didn't give us the internet. Large-scale cooperation, open protocols, and free software gave us the internet. Capitalism gave us mobile sites that don't work because fifteen ads cover the screen.

The early technology, yes. Which technically means it was socially funded by taxes. DARPA and NSF funding to university research also built large parts of our modern tech (more socially funded programs). Corporations just mastered the art of packaging and charging.
