The explanation is simple: white liberals are far more afraid of random violence than systematic violence. Random violence makes them feel unsafe, systematic violence makes them feel safe, because they know systematic violence is used on their behalf, not against them.
This is why you never hear them talk about disarming the police, demilitarizing, or dismantling the systems that oppress the most vulnerable members of society. The most they will ever do is politely ask the oppressive power structures to behave better. This has no effect.

Disarming the police, politically speaking, will require the disarming of civilians. If the public perceives a significant threat from gun violence, they will want a police force that will respond in kind.
Oh no... one of the goals of disarming the populace is so we can disarm the police. I don't trust those fuckers with guns... they are just fallible humans to. No one should have the power to kill with a finger squeeze easily at their disposal.
