Medication is and can be just one component/tool. Any decent doctor will work with you or refer you to other professionals for other factors. Therapy and lifestyle changes are often recommended along with medication to help manage clinical depression.

I’m honestly convinced that if we made a world where people’s needs were provided for and they weren’t coerced into labor they didn’t want to do that mental health rates would drop radically.

I can’t find the study but apparently one of the best treatments for schizophrenia is getting people an apartment and a job so they can live independently.

Philosophy tube made a video on the topic where he discussed the idea of life suck, where a therapist can help you manage but not really get better because your life circumstances are what causes you to be sad and not just your mentality.

Neoliberalism wants us to internalize our problems, so that it can cleanse its responsibility. We do know that lack of sleep and depression are correlated, so we must look to the causes of people losing sleep, for example. ie. a single mother working two jobs just to make rent

Not "unaddressable causes" but rather, if we focus on depression as an individual biological problem, then lawmakers and all don't have to talk about how people's souls are being sucked dry by meaningless jobs and too-high rent and etc.
