It's an excellent strategy for protecting the status quo. Without critical discussion, free speech will always elevate the majority opinions while silencing minorities.
People are really out there vigorously advocating for free speech, but at the same time saying philosophy is useless. Like...everyone should shout their opinions all the time, but under absolutely no circumstance should anyone examine these opinions seriously.
