I think when people first encounter existentialism, they are still within a traditional spiritual frame, so they evaluate in that frame: thus, no god, no guidance, no safety. It takes a few encounters to say, hm, what if it's true? Maybe no god means freedom to choose, no shame?

Funny how so many are prepared to discard a philosophy or ideology because it hasn't "succeeded" as if science is fundamentally a process of constantly refining our understanding of the universe instead of a sudden moment of complete enlightenment.
