On the advice of a Philosophy professor, I read Brothers Karamozov at age 18. I took notes on names cuz I was so baffled. 200 pages in I finally figured out that Mitya and Dimitri are *the same guy*, and so are Alexey and Alyosha. :-/

My dad gave me his ancient copy of crime and punishment when I had to read it for high school, specifically because he’d written a list of all the nicknames used for each character on the inside of the cover. Made my life much easier.

As one of those people who can't remember anyone's name, I'm glad knowing people have fun feeling how I feel all the time. Also, I think this explains why I didn't find Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky specially confusing reads.
