Why does any discussion of communism ignore the fact that previous attempts have involved an extremely centralized government with low accountability which honestly just creates an easy to abuse system?

Perhaps because both systems have historically relied on brutal authoritarian regimes that have no problem on disregarding the freedom and wellbeing of their own citizens in favor of the state So is easy to understand why the "CeNTriStS" would put both groups on the same basket.
