Universal Basic Income advocates want to give everyone $1k a month. - your boss will use this as an excuse to cut your salary. - your landlord will use this as an excuse to raise your rent. - your congressmen will use this as an excuse to slash benefits and lower minimum wage.
-

On the other hand, your boss, landlord, and congressman, don't need an excuse to cut labor costs, raise rents, and slash benefits, since they already do that without a UBI. Properly implemented it literally redistribution of wealth. All the 'concerns' are happening regardless
-
UBI isn't meant to solve rent-seeking behavior or labor exploitation or capital garnishing welfare, those are ongoing separate problems that require exhaustive solutions in of themselves. Pretending UBI is a proposed solution to them is deceitful.

Because the free market is far more efficient and less subject to failure than the government. Its the biggest step you can get towards equality while maintaining prosperity.
-
Anyone who works in operations or engineering knows what a joke the idea that the free market gives us equality or prosperity us. It's an impediment to both. That we sometimes have those with the millstone of capitalism is like Batman having the cholera and beating The Joker.

So you want to build public housing and that will solve income insecurity? Who will move into the public housing? What % of the population? Where will the housing go? Do you see working class families who own their homes moving into them? Do you not want to help those families?

Couldn't you just use that same logic if universal free public housing was the topic? Just because the situation is fucked all around the board doesn't mean the idea of UBI is doomed before the start. People will react as they do no matter what. Need to start somewhere.
-
UBI at least puts money in the hands of the people no questions asked. Where people are then in better positions now to give time and energy to fighting back against the rich and powerful that your statement suggests control us. Allows an immediate relief to current circumstance

Again, a weirdly dishonest take. I'm pretty sure most UBI advocates genuinely want a world where wealth is much more equitably distributed.
-
Whether a UBI is the best way of achieving this or not is another issue, but it could be one of a number of programs which could be usefully implemented (why not free public housing *and* a UBI?).
