Anyone who wants less democracy in order to make a "better democracy" really has no interest in democracy at all. They want a ruling class to make the decisions.

Indeed! Even better elementary schools. I remember being surprised and shocked by how un-educational our elementary schools are back when I studied to be a teacher. Gotta have a solid foundation to build on.

Want to echo this. You shouldn't need a BA to be a functional citizen. That should be doable in K-9. But there's a reason capitalist countries had worse literacy rates than socialist ones, and why nothing has been done to update literacy for a digital age.

Because tests are inherently undemocratic. I actually think the best answer is the Ancient Greek one (supported by some modern political scientists): pick people at random, short terms. They'd do statistically better than career politicians and demagogues.
