Both true. Don't forget that part of the Stoic mindset is also that we have an ethical duty to make both ourselves and the world better.
The stoic mindset is, more or less, to accept that the world exists as it does. But it's easy to forget that you yourself are part of the world, and the first thing that you must accept is that you exist as you do.

An interesting question... I think 'accept' in this context doesn't mean 'aquiesce to' so much as 'acknowledge the reality of'. You can recognise the horror of an external thing without allowing it to disturb you.
