It's sometimes easy to confuse being mean with being smart. Sure, it takes a certain talent to come up with condescending zingers, but this is an entirely different skill than actually knowing what you are talking about.

There’s actually a psychological term for this: hypercriticism - being overly critical in order to appear smart. It’s an epidemic right now for sure.

Agree. But, is "arrogance" in any sense whatsoever justified to any extent? I would say, "intellectual humility" has become a forgotten virtue in this era of "simulacrum" /"hyper-reality".
